Healing of a Demon-Possessed Man

^{Mk 1:}²¹Then they went into Capernaum, and right away He entered the synagogue on the Sabbath and began to teach.… ²³Just then a man with an unclean spirit [^{Lk 4:33}unclean demonic spirit] was in their synagogue. He cried out, ²⁴“What do You have to do with us, Jesus—Nazarene? Have You come to destroy us? I know who You are—the Holy One of God!”

²⁵But Jesus rebuked him and said, “Be quiet, and come out of him!” ²⁶And the unclean spirit convulsed him, shouted with a loud voice, and came out of him.

Amazement at Jesus’ Authority

Mark 1:22, 27–28; Luke 4:32, 36–37

^{Mk 1:22}They were astonished at His teaching because, unlike the scribes, He was teaching them as one having authority. ^{Lk 4:36}They were all struck with amazement and kept saying to one another, “What is this message? For with authority and power He commands the unclean spirits, ^{Mk 1:27b–28}and they obey Him.” ²⁸His fame then spread throughout the entire vicinity of Galilee.
