Do you know more rich uncles or more poor widows? Do you treat them any differently? If so, how?
A Sacrificial
Offering by a Poor Widow
Mark 12:41–44; Luke 21:1–4
Mk 12:41–44Sitting across from the temple treasury, He watched how the crowd dropped money into
the treasury. Many rich people were putting in large sums†. 42And a poor widow came and
dropped in two tiny coins worth very
little. 43Summoning His disciples, He said to them, “I assure you:
This poor widow has put in more than all those giving to the temple treasury. 44For
they all gave out of their surplus, but she out of her poverty has put in
everything she possessed—all she had to live on.”[1]
- God is ... What do we learn about God in this passage?
- We are ... What do we learn about people in this passage?
- How does the poor widow differ from these leaders? What is Jesus' point in making this contrast?
- When is "more" actually "less"? When is a "little" a "lot"?
- I will ... What has the Holy Spirit revealed to us in this passage? How can I apply it to my life this week?
- Do you give to God off the top (at the outset of the month), or from what is left over (at month's end)? Explain.
- Why do you give to God's work? What do you give besides money?
- You can ... Who do you know who needs to hear this? Feel free to share with others by social media links at the bottom of this.
