#049 The Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5:1-12; Luke 6:17-26) - Life of Christ = Week 10 - Thursday

The Sermon on the Mount

The Sermon on the Mount

Matthew 5:1–7:29Luke 6:17–49

Mt 5:1–2When He saw the crowds, He went up on the mountain [Lk 6:17aAfter coming down with them, He stood on a level place], and after He sat down, His disciples came to Him. 2Then He began to teach them, saying:

3Blessed are the poor in spirit [Lk 6:20bBlessed are you who are poor], because the kingdom of heaven is theirs [Lk 6:20cbecause the kingdom of God is yours].

4“Blessed are those who mourn, because they will be comforted.

5“Blessed are the gentle, because they will inherit the earth.

6“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, because they will be filled.

7“Blessed are the merciful, because they will be shown mercy.

8“Blessed are the pure in heart, because they will see God.

9“Blessed are the peacemakers, because they will be called sons of God.

10“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness, because the kingdom of heaven is theirs.

11“Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you, and say every kind of evil against you falsely because of Me. 12Be glad and rejoice [Lk 6:23bleap for joy], because your reward is great in heaven. For that is how they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Lk 6:24–26“But woe to you who are rich, because you have received your comfort. 25Woe to you who are full now, because you will be hungry. Woe to you who are laughing now, because you will mourn and weep. 26Woe to you when all people speak well of you, because this is the way their forefathers used to treat the false prophets.
